Definition of Verbs

What is a verb ?


Verbs are the action in a sentence that describe what the subject is doing. along with nouns, verb is the main of sentence or phrase, telling s story about what is talking place. In fact, without a verb, full thoughts can't be properly conveyed, and even the simplest sentences, such as Diman sings, have one. Actually, a verb can be sentence by theirself, either the subject, in the most case you, implied, is like, as sing.! and Drive!

When learning the rules of grammar, schoolchildren are often tought that verbs are "Doing" words. Meaning they the part ot the sentence which explains the action talking place :
  • He ran away
  • She eats chocolate cake on sunday

The horses gallop across the fields. (ran, eat and gallopare the 'action' part of those sentence, thus they are teh verbs. But, it can be confusing because not all verbs are easily edentifiable as action: I know your name, jack thought about it, we considered several applications. These are non-action verbs, examples that describe a state of being, emotion, possession, sense or opinion. Other nonaction verbs include (love, agree, feel, am and have,)

How to Recognize a Verb


As you can see from the examples above, one clue to help you recognize a verb is its location campare to the subject. Vercs almost always come after a noun or pronoun. These nouns and pronoun is referred to as the subject. The verb thought comes after the noun Jack, so the action Jack ( Subject) was talking was Thinking (verbs).

>> Diman eats his dinner quickly
>> They went to Mosque
>> You write neatly in your textbook
>> They thought about all the prizes in the competition

Here are some other ways to recognize verbs in a sentence :

Example:

>> if you are not sure if a word si a verb, ask yourself, " can I do........?

Can I think, Wonder, Walk, Yown? yes, so these are verbs.

>> You can also ask, " what was happening"?

In the sentence Diman eats his lunch quickly, What is up? Eating is Happening, so eating is the verb.

In the sentence They thought about all the prizes What is Happening? Thought ( think ) is happening, so Thought is the verb.

Physical Verb _ Definition and Examples


Physical verbs are the action verb. it describe specific physical movement. when you can create a motion with your body or use a tool complete in an action, The word you use to describe it is most likely a physical verb.

Example:
>> Marhum sat in the table
>> the Cat breathes quickly after she chases her ball and
>> should we vote in the election?

Even when the action is not very active, when the action is done by the body or a tool, consider it a physical verb.

>> Let us run to the middle of field
>> We hear the train coming
>> Call us when you are finished with the class

Mental Verb _ Definition and Examples


Mental verb has meaning that is related to concept is like discovering, understanding, thinking, or planning, in general, a mental verb refer to a cognitive state.

>> We know the reason
>> He recognized me from across the class
>> Do you believe everything people tell you?

State of being Verb ( definitoan and examples)


As we know that, this is like linking verb, the kind of this state describe the condition that still happening. This verbs, form of tobe, is like , ( am, is, are, and this usually complemented by adjectives.

Action verbs express specific action and are any time you want to show action or discuss some something. it is important to remember that the action do not have to be physical.

In the sentence with a transitive verb, someone receives the action the verb.

The transitive verb is ate, Diman is the subject, because it is Diman who is doing the eating, and cookies are the direction object, because it is the cookies that are being eaten.

Intransitive Verbs


Intransitive verbs are action verbs that always express activity. they are different from transitive verbs because there is not direct object following an intransitive verb.

Auxiliary Verbs


Auxiliary verbs are also known as helping verbs or used together by the main verb, is like have, might, will.
